Savannah Anniversary Trip

Well, we did it! We actually went through with our plans and went away for a few days to celebrate our 5 year anniversary! I was very excited about the trip, but dreading leaving my babies. I've never been away from them this long before. 3 whole nights! Nonny, bless her soul, was keeping them, so I knew they would be in perfectly capable and loving hands. Just not my hands. But, we did it, and let me just say it was wonderful! We have been to Savannah for a short time when Jonah was about 10 months old. He got an ear infection the first night and was up all night crying and coughing. We went home the next morning. I wanted to go back and really see everything. We loved everything about Savannah, except for the heat! It was SO hot, but hey, we were there in August. It should've been expected.

Here we are on our way!

This was the view from our room at the Westin. We stayed across the harbor from Savannah. There was a ferry that ran about every 20 minutes. It was really nice having the view of River Street.

We thought of the boys every time a big ship came by. They would've loved it so much!

The West behind us

The hottest day...can you tell?

This was Jonah's fountain from a couple years ago. We have a cute little picture of him reaching over trying to touch the water.

My favorite thing we did was take the trolley tour. We started at about 9:30 and had to get off at 5 when they were closing up! We didn't even get to all of the stops. We could get off and get back on whenever we wanted to. It was a great way to really see everything and hear the stories that go along with the beautiful homes and buildings.

I'm jumping ahead a little, but we ate at Lady and Sons. OMG. I was in home-cooking heaven and Derek literally ate himself sick. It definitely lived up to the hype. When you can make green beans and limas taste delicious, you are doing something right. The next pic still cracks me up. I thought I would start out with a nice little salad. I quickly thought I would just get all of my food first and then just sit down and eat. Once all the yummy food was in front of me, I didn't get that salad another thought, ha! It was untouched ;)

Derek missed his best buddies!

Old police station

J would've loved this real life Chuggington!

The bell they use to ring when there was a fire.

Being Forrest Gump where his bench sat for the movie

Funny story...this was built to be a hospital for only women, run by only women. The only way a male would be in this hospital is if a women gave birth to him. He then had 3 days until he would be "evicted" ;)

They were filming a movie while we were there. Cute little old cars were everywhere. We stopped at Clary's while on the trolley tour. I had been told by a couple different people to eat there for breakfast. Well, it was lunch time when we were there, but they served breakfast all day. Yay! 2 birds, 1 stone. Loved this place!

Oh this place was gorgeous! The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

On Friday, we went to Tybee and Hilton Head islands. We wanted to squeeze in a little beach time :)

We ate lunch at a great place on Hilton Head called Hudson's. It was delish. Bonus, it was right on the water, and we got to watch about 8-10 dolphins playing out in the water.

This was at the Westin on Hilton Head. We got to use their pool and beach access. It was beautiful, but SO crowded. We couldn't even find a chair on the pool decks, plural. There were 3 pools plus the little pond below. It was very nice, but I would definitely go in the "off" season.

Happy Anniversary!!!

I may have already added this pic at some point, but I wanted to end with it. We left our wedding in this same car 5 years ago. We went cruising one night and had our wedding song playing. It was Brad Paisley's "I Thought I Loved You Then." It's so true. I thought I loved this guy when we were dating, got engaged, got married, had our first baby. Nothing compares to the deep, long lasting love I have for him now. Seeing him as a loving father to our boys, a provider for our family, and a leader of our family makes me realize how lucky we are to have him. God knew what he was doing. Here's to many many more anniversaries with you, babe :) LOVE YOU FOREVER!
